Forsyth County school board members got a first look this week at the district’s proposed fiscal year 2018 budget.
Budget director Rick Gunn sketched out a proposed operational budget of $404.9 million, with revenue at $405.7 million. The plan would thus add more than $830,000 to the district’s rainy day fund.
The budget contains a two percent raise for teachers and all certified and classified staff and a step increase for eligible staffers. It also provides for nearly 140 new positions at schools with 27 of those slated as “growth positions” including bus drivers, mechanics and instructors.
In funding the document, Gunn said preliminary figures show the county’s tax digest growing 8.3.percent with state revenue increasing by 6 percent.
The budget is scheduled for adoption in June.
