Construction is under way of a new public dog park across from the Forsyth County Animal Shelter.

"Once complete, the park will feature synthetic dog turf, dog water fountains, climbing boulder, wooded areas, dog walk ramp, tunnel, sun shades, shaded benches and two family style restrooms," according to a county announcement.

The Forsyth Board of Commissioners earlier this year awarded an $850,760 contract to Zaveri Enterprises Inc. of Lawrenceville to build the four-acre dog park at 4065 County Way in the northern part of the county. The park is to open in the fall of 2020.

The facility, funded by donations, Parks & Recreation capital funds and, primarily, SPLOST VIII monies, would be the county’s fourth dog park. Other parks are at the Caney Creek Preserve, Fowler Park and Windermere Park.
