Forsyth Commission to talk fire stations, park

County park and fire department improvements will be considered by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Tuesday.

Commissioners will consider awarding a bid to construct two new fire stations. Division Chief Jason Shivers said Station Six will be a modern, four-bay facility off Ga. 141 at the county’s south end and will use the same number as a small outdated volunteer-built station shut down years ago. Shivers said the facility has been “desperately needed” to fill a coverage gap between Stations 2 and 10.

The new modern Station 8 in northern Forsyth off of Keith Bridge Road will be built on the same locale as the current outmoded Station 8-which will be demolished. Both are expected to be finished by the end of 2016.

Commissioners will also weigh in on awarding a bid for construction of phase one of Lanierland Park, north of Jot-Em-Down Road in the county’s north end. The 109-acre facility will be built on the side of a closed concert venue.
