Seven weeks after it began shutting down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Forsyth County Parks & Recreation announced the limited reopening Friday of athletic fields, basketball and tennis courts and other outdoor facilities.

Athletic fields will be available, though for no organized play, according to a county announcement. Tennis courts also will reopen, as will outdoor basketball courts – for shooting hoops only, no games.

Also open will be the track and field at Fowler Park; the Shady Grove Campground, for limited RV and glamping usage; one central restroom per park; the restroom at the Big Creek Greenway Bethelview Trailhead; and picnic pavilions, for non-reserved use by fewer than 10 people.

Park trails, boat launches, disc golf courses, passive use areas and the Big Creek Greenway remain open. Playgrounds, dog parks and the skate park; the Central Park, Fowler Park and Old Atlanta Park recreation centers, and the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center, are still closed.
