The Forsyth County Board of Education has awarded a contract to build the district’s sixth traditional high school.
Board members voted April 21 to accept a $72.1 million bid from Barton Malow Company for design and construction of Denmark High School. The campus serving southwestern Forsyth is slated to open in August of 2018 and will be designed to handle at least 2,100 students. The bid includes the main school building and an addition designed to handle 20 additional classrooms. District officials said both local and state funds will finance construction.
In other action, the board approved changing the name of the I Achieve Virtual Academy to Forsyth County Virtual Academy to more closely identify the school as part of the public system. The change for the alternative school serving some 225 middle and high school students goes into effect July 1.
