A wintry mix of precipitation is possible across parts of metro Atlanta late Tuesday night into Wednesday, but little snow accumulation is expected outside the higher elevations of extreme north Georgia.

Another slight chance of snow is predicted for Friday, forecasters said.

Tuesday morning’s drizzle and light rain was expected to be replaced by sunshine during the afternoon, when highs will reach the upper 50s, Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley said.

But Chandley said an “Alberta clipper” weather system will bring a quick chill, along with the chance of flurries, by Wednesday.

Chandley said there’s a 30 percent chance of rain or snow early Wednesday, when lows will drop into the mid-30s before climbing only to the low 40s during the afternoon.

The National Weather Service said that the precipitation should begin before midnight Tuesday as rain, but change to a mix of rain and freezing rain or snow, generally north of I-20.

“Little accumulation is expected, with up to an inch across the higher elevations,” the Weather Service said in a statement.

Thursday will be sunny but cold, with morning lows in the mid-20s and afternoon highs in the mid-40s.

A 20 percent chance of rain or snow is forecast for Friday, when afternoon highs in the low 40s will follow morning lows in the low 30s.

Sunny skies, highs in the low 40s and lows in the low 20s are forecast for Saturday.
