The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved on Dec. 16 a contract for the phase 1 development of Violet F. Stout Park in South Cobb.

For no more than $217,861, Pond & Company will provide professional design and construction administration services for the 217-acre park at 5315 Brownsville Road, Powder Springs.

Funding will come from the 2016 PARKS Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) Program.

In May, the board approved a park master plan of the property which had been developed with active public input, said PARKS Director Jimmy Gisi.

These improvements will include equestrian trails, training facilities and “general public enjoyment of this large natural area,” Gisi said in a Dec. 16 memo.

No new maintenance or operational costs are associated with this design project.

This property is open only for scheduled programs and not for daily public access.

Programs are scheduled through the Natural Resources Management Unit.
