The city of Fayetteville has issued a public notice on behalf of its fire department to warn the public about an allegedly fraudulent charity scheme.
There have been reports of representatives soliciting donations for a group called Firefighter Support Funds, but the notice states that “those representatives have been unwilling to provide details when asked about the organization and the purpose of the donations,” and the group is not affiliated with any official Georgia department.
The fraudulent activity has been reported to the secretary of state’s office, and anyone who receives a call from Firefighter Support Funds is asked to notify the Georgia State Firefighters Association at 770-914-7774 or the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs at 888-488-4462.
