A report released by the city of Fayetteville says that increased police patrols at the Fayette Pavilion and other retail areas from Nov. 29 through December turned up no incidents of violent crime.

Police Chief Scott Gray said a special crime suppression operation was conducted in shopping areas daily between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., in addition to regular patrols. Gray said Fayetteville City Council members consulted him because of public concerns about safety at the Pavilion. No violent crimes or car break-ins were reported during that time, but police made 62 shoplifting arrests, 58 of which were at the Pavilion Walmart. Other shopping district arrests included five for criminal trespass, four for traffic violations and three for drug-related offenses.

There were also 156 citations, 96 warnings, 87 incident reports and 11 miscellaneous reports. Gray said the stats “indicate Fayette Pavilion is actually a pretty safe place to shop.”
