Following a string of attempted or actual robberies of local store owners since May, Fayetteville police are warning merchants to be vigilant.

A notice issued Friday cited two incidents in which armed men confronted store owners at their Fayetteville homes late at night after closing, demanding money; a similar incident occurred outside the Kroger on S. Glynn Street in August.

Police recommend that store owners and managers watch for anyone following them after closing, vary their routes to make bank deposits, not carry large amounts of cash when alone, and maintain video surveillance systems at their businesses.
