Smoke prompted an evacuation Friday at a Fayetteville hospital, but no fire was discovered, hospital authorities said.

“The source of the smoke was related to the hospital expansion construction,” said hospital spokesman Michael Boylan in an email. “Steps have been taken to prevent future events.”

Firefighters responded to the smoke alarm at Piedmont Fayette Hospital at 11:45 a.m. and some smoke was present on the second and third floors, Boylan said. An all-clear was given about 2:30 p.m., he said.
