Plans to build a new Lidl grocery store in Fayetteville gained ground on July 6 when the Fayetteville City Council unanimously approved several measures. As part of its expansion into Georiga, the Germany-based chain (whose name rhymes with “needle”) has bought the site of the J&R Clothing store at 1307 Highway 85 North.

The council agreed to let Lidl annex .96 acres of adjacent property as well as rezone two other parcels to make room for the 35,952-square-foot store and its required buffer zone.

The clothing store is moving to another location in Fayetteville.
