The Fayette County Board of Education voted 5-0 Monday to approve a 1 percent pay raise for all salaried employees, effective Jan. 1. The county has benefitted from healthy property tax revenues and other cost savings that currently place the school system $2.1 million over its projected FY2015 budget. The pay raise will cost the county approximately $842,000 to implement through June. Superintendent Jody Barrow said the adjustment will help retain and recruit highly qualified teachers, and should be sustainable under the current financial structure.
