Marching band directors in Fayette County will soon get a better view of their performers, following the Board of Education’s May 29 approval of funding for new band towers at its five high schools.
The school system asked for bids earlier this year but received only one submission because of the timeline requirement. Melhart Music of McAllen, Texas, quoted a price of $45,000 to install a 28-foot tower at each school. The board voted 5-0 to allocate an overall project budget of $250,000 from ESPLOST III funds. Any school that wants to upgrade to a 35-foot tower will have to acquire the additional funds from its booster club or other sources.
Installation will begin this summer, starting with Fayette County High and McIntosh High.
