The Fayette County Board of Education voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve new learning management system software for all schools. A committee chose Blackboard Learn based on its technical capabilities and framework design.

The software will cost approximately $191,000 the first year, with annual renewal costs of $180,000-$255,000, which includes training for teachers. Blackboard Learn will enable teachers to build or import their own curriculum content and put assignments and resources into one single sign-on system, replacing a mix of websites and software currently in use.

It will also offer parents mobile app capabilities for accessing student information.
