The Fayette County Board of Education voted 5-0 Monday to approve a $184 million budget for the coming school year. The board did not make any changes from the most recent budget presentation, which included adding more than 100 new staff positions aimed mostly at reducing class sizes and restoring recession-era cuts. The system ended this school year with a $27 million fund balance. Board member Barry Marchman expressed reservations about expenditures, but Superintendent Jody Barrow said he believes the new budget is both manageable and sustainable based on revenue projections.
