Despite an initial challenge by a board member, the Fayette County Board of Education ultimately voted 5-0 to approve its slate of 2020-21 administrators at its Feb. 24 meeting.

Prior to the usually routine annual vote, District 1 member Barry Marchman asked Superintendent Joseph Barrow Jr. to address public comments made earlier in the meeting alleging that a committee formed to choose new sex education materials was operating “illegally.” Marchman said it would be “an insult to our community” to rehire staff if any procedures had not been followed. However, Barrow said it would be “inappropriate” not to approve the 59 administrators without any evidence of wrongdoing, but that “if we see something wrong, we’ll fix it.”

Julie Turner, assistant superintendent of student achievement, said allegations about the committee’s composition were the result of “misinformation” that has been circulated.
