Fayette County and British filmmaking giant Pinewood Shepperton recently snared major recognition in the economic development arena. The Georgia Economic Developers Association presented Pinewood and the Fayette County Development Authority with the 2013 Deal of the Year Award in the large community category at GEDA’s annual awards ceremony in Macon. Pinewood is building its North American headquarters in Fayette County. Pinewood Atlanta Studios is a multimillion dollar film studio complex that will eventually house numerous feature film, television and commercial productions per year. Phase one of the project, which includes five state-of-the-art soundstages as well as workshops and production offices, is slated to open in January. This is the second Deal of the Year award for the Fayette Development Authority since 2009 when it won in the regional category.
