The Fayette County public school system has adopted a resolution opposing a proposed amendment to the Georgia constitution.

The Opportunity School District measure, which will be on the November ballot, would give the state government the authority to take control of schools with repeatedly failing College and Career Readiness Performance Index scores. The Fayette resolution, approved 5-0 by the Board of Education on Aug. 15, states that the OSD provisions “contradict our district’s strong belief in the constitutional authority of local board of education to control and manage their schools.”
