Fayette County firefighters will have better visibility during emergencies following the donation of 146 new lights for their helmets.

The Fayette Fire Foundation’s $10,614 gift to the county was recognized at the Nov. 14 Board of Commissioners meeting. Vicki Turner and Sharron Singletary from the foundation handed out the lights to the firefighters in attendance, who also demonstrated the devices in the darkened meeting room. Fire Chief David Scarbrough said the lights would free up the firefighters’ hands and help make them “a lot more efficient and a lot more safe.”

The nonprofit foundation collects donations from individuals and companies to fund programs related to fire safety and disaster preparedness, including equipment, education programs and smoke detector giveaways.
