The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam supposedly related to jury duty. The office says that an unidentified inmate at Valdosta State Prison, falsely using the name of an actual Fayette County deputy, has been trying to solicit gift cards as “payment” for missing jury duty.

The county says the scammer has even set up a voicemail message on his phone that gives the erroneous impression that callers have reached the sheriff’s office.

The most recent scam calls originated from 770-324-6012, but the county says other numbers have also been used.
