Fayette County will not shut off residential water service for households with delinquent accounts, at least for 90 days.
Charles Rousseau made the motion at Thursday’s Board of Commissioners meeting so that all county residents would have the means for hand-washing and other health safety measures in the midst of the coronavirus prevention effort. The motion passed 5-0, and the commission will revisit the matter at the end of the 90 days to see if an extension is warranted. Commissioner Eric Maxwell said the county can absorb the cost of keeping water service on for all customers in the interest of public safety.
Maxwell also said he supports the board giving County Administrator Steve Rapson the leeway to enact other measures as needed to deal with coronavirus-related policies or precautions.
