Two public hearings have been scheduled to discuss Fayette County’s plans to replace J.C. Booth Middle School in Peachtree City.

The meetings will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 23 and Sept. 25 at the Board of Education meeting room in Building A of the LaFayette Educational Center, 205 LaFayette Ave. in Fayetteville. Discussions about whether to renovate or replace Booth, which has reached capacity, began last year and culminated in a proposal to build a $46 million facility on Stagecoach Road on the city’s eastern edge. Attendance zones would remain the same, and the new school would accommodate 1,400 students.

If replaced, the existing Booth building on Peachtree Parkway would be used “to expand educational offerings in partnership with post-secondary institutions.” Objections to new construction include concerns about the high cost and less-central location.

The public can also send comments directly to the school board by emailing sikes.kaye@mail.fcboe.org.
