School building closures are helping construction work in Fayette County progress a bit faster than projected. The Board of Education reviewed the status of several major projects at its April 13 work session.
Most notably, several acres of trees have been clear cut at the site of the new J.C. Booth Middle School off Stagecoach Road in Peachtree City, and the house at 110 Carriage Lane has been removed. Renovation plans for the current Booth building are expected to be mostly complete by the end of this month. Construction of the gym addition at Oak Grove Elementary in Peachtree City is going faster than would have been possible with school still in session; the board said it might be completed by the end of this summer rather than the original estimate of next year. Renovations and modifications at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville are also wrapping up.
