Parents who use Fayette County’s After School Program will pay $5 more per child per week starting in August.

Sharon Walters, the program’s director, told the administration that the increase is needed to offset rising costs related to personnel and programming supplies. The current $50 weekly rate has not changed since 2009. County employees whose children attend the program will continue to pay $40 per child per week, and scholarships are also available. ASP is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade at all 14 of the county’s elementary schools.

The program is staffed by 28 site coordinators and 60 aides, and includes crafts, sports, snacks and learning time.
