Fayette County is continuing its replacement of older computers in its elementary schools. The Board of Education voted 5-0 on Dec. 14 to spend $1.5 million for 1,570 new Dell touch-screen computers for grades K-5 classrooms.

Technology Services Director Sharon Lunceford said the all-in-one units eliminate the need for separate CPU towers, and can be operated wired or wirelessly to improve flexibility of use. The Dell computers will replace the aging N-Computing units and be used in conjunction with Chromebook and Nexus tablets.

Funding will come from ESPLOST revenue.
