The Peachtree City Rowing Club will start a program at Lake McIntosh under a Youth Athletic Association Agreement unanimously approved by the Fayette County Board of Commissioners Thursday.
The county will spend up to $30,000 from the recreation contingency fund to build the basic infrastructure required at the lake. Equipment, coaching and marketing will be provided by the national group RowAmerica. Rowing programs will be open to students, adults, senior citizens, veterans and others, including those with special needs.
The club expects to draw 300-400 members its first year, starting in July, and could attract regional competitions to the area.
