New math textbooks have been adopted for the upcoming school year in Fayette County.

After a public review period that produced few comments, the Board of Education voted 5-0 on May 20 to purchase texts for middle and high school students as well as for those in Exceptional Children’s Services classes. The new books were evaluated since last fall by committees that looked at content, assessments, organization, presentation, instructional design and support, and equity and accessibility. Those for ECS were chosen based on goals of supplementing skills gaps, remediating deficit areas and providing multisensory, hands-on materials.

All of the books chosen align with state standards. Total funding from ESPLOST revenue will be $2.16 million; another $117,500 will come from the General Fund to pay for electronic subscriptions not eligible for ESPLOST funding.
