Fayette County will spend just under $120,000 to repair, but not expand, its animal shelter on Highway 74 South. The Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 on July 13 to approve cosmetic upgrades to the exterior, add seven outdoor dog runs, and fix plumbing, rusty doors and other interior problems.

Calling it “the ugliest-looking building you’ve ever seen,” Commissioner Steve Brown said that efforts to increase pet adoptions and expand the small facility could begin by making it more “presentable” and getting the shelter hooked up to the Peachtree City sewer system so its current septic field area could be utilized for more space.
