The Fayette County Board of Commissioners’ unanimous approval of a contracting bid to dredge Lake Peachtree means the long-awaited project will get underway in early February.

The $1.45 million bid, the lowest of three presented, was awarded Thursday to Massana Construction Inc. Although Peachtree City owns the lake, an intergovernmental agreement requires the county to pay for dredging every eight to 10 years in exchange for receiving water from the reservoir. Approximately 64,000 cubic yards of silt will be removed before the mostly dry lake is refilled; completion is expected in late May.

Peachtree City’s administration has yet to decide if it will do additional dredging at its own cost.
