The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency has given a $615,155 Hazard Mitigation Grant to help Fayette County fund a drainage project on Antebellum Way southeast of Fayetteville.

The project will reduce flood damage and improve ingress and egress to the area, which is near both Nash Creek and Murphy Creek. GEMA Director Homer Bryson said the upgrade will provide for “a safer and more reliable roadway, especially during severe weather events and natural disasters.”

The funds, which come from both state and federal sources, were made available because of Fayette County’s adoption of a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
