The Fayette County Board of Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved $1.54 million to fund the Old Jail Renovation Project. The 19,715-square-foot building has been unoccupied for 14 years since the new jail was built, and the county wants to bring it back up to operational standards to provide more inmate capacity. An additional $99,925 was awarded in a separate contract to install the electronic security system. Renovations are scheduled to be completed in August.
