A fiery crash sparked by earlier crash congestion led to one fatality and gridlock traffic on I-75 north early Thursday in Henry County.
All lanes had reopened as of 8 a.m. but delays remained, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
The accident happened south of Bill Gardner Parkway at exit 212. Drivers were urged to take the exit at Ga. 16 and use Ga. 42 or 155 as alternates.
The interstate was already congested due to a previous tractor-trailer accident at about 4:23 a.m., Henry County police Capt. Joey Smith said.
Due to the heavy traffic, a separate tractor-trailer with hazards flashing was stopped northbound at the Hampton/Locust Grove exit.
“The driver of a black Chevy Malibu (registered out of Monroe County) was unaware of the stopped traffic and rear-ended the tractor-trailer,” Smith said. “This resulted in a fire, which resulted in the fatality.”
James Edward Pennington, 50, of Forsyth, was killed.
