An explosion rocked a home in Dawson County, sending debris all over the property Wednesday.
Distraught homeowner Nancy Philips could barely stand to watch, her boyfriend said everything they own is gone.
“I just keep looking at it and can't believe it's a total loss,” said resident Charlie Gardner.
The 4,000 square-foot home had been for sale for more than a year. Gardner said they were trying to downsize. No one was home when neighbors reported an explosion just before noon.
“I thought actually a car may have hit house, it was that loud,” said neighbor Cathy Holcombe.
Firefighters tried to contain it from the outside but had little luck
“It appears some type of explosion and the only gas they've got in there is propane,” said Dawson County Fire Chief Tim Satterfield.
Debris could be seen scattered in the backyard pool area. Gardner said they had three fireplaces in the home.
“[Have you had any problem with gas leaking or anything?] Not really not that I know of,” Gardner said.
Investigators said the structure had already begun collapsing on itself even before the major fire started.
“We could have been home. We could have been home, we normally would be home,” Gardner said.
