The eastbound lanes of I-285 in DeKalb County have reopened after being  shut down throughout the Monday morning commute because of a deadly pedestrian accident.

The state Department of Transportation confirmed there was a fatality in the 4:38 a.m. incident, which occurred between Ashford Dunwoody and Chamblee Dunwoody roads.

Dunwoody police Sgt. Mike Carlson said the unidentified victim initially struck another vehicle in the westbound lanes before hitting the median wall and coming to a stop in the center westbound lanes.

"The victim exited his vehicle and jumped the median wall into the eastbound lanes of I-285, where he was struck by several vehicles," Carlson said.

He said that the incident is still under investigation, but no charges are expected to be filed against any of the other drivers.

All eastbound lanes of I-285 were closed until shortly after 8:30 a.m., when the three left lanes were reopened. The remaining lanes were reopened about 9 a.m.
