East Point swears in new city manager

Frederick D. Gardiner was sworn in as city manager for the city of East Point earlier this month. The city’s top position requires he manage the day-to-day operations of city government which is comprised of 13 departments and more than 475 employees.

Prior to joining the city of East Point, Gardiner served as city administrator in McDonough for two and a half years. In 2004, he was appointed as development services director in Griffin. During his more than 20 years in the public sector, Gardiner also has worked as director of Planning and Zoning for Henry County; as Neighborhood Renewal Administrator in Decatur, Illinois; and he has worked seven years in the Bahamas with the Bahamas Telecommunications Corp.

Gardiner has a bachelor’s degree in management and master’s in urban and regional planning from Alabama A&M University.
