A former East Point officer waived his right to a first appearance hearing Saturday on a theft charge.

Eric Miller is accused of theft by taking, violation of oath of office and false statements, police said. He was taken into custody Friday by GBI agents.

Miller was granted a signature bond worth $9,000 on Saturday, and his next court date is Oct. 7, according to Fulton County jail spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan.

The East Point Police Department asked for the GBI's help looking into possible criminal activity while internal affairs investigated policy and procedure violations.

Miller was placed on leave in August pending the outcome of the investigation.
