A fire broke out at a mattress factory in East Point on Wednesday.
Police and fire officials responded to a fire at Classic Mattress Company Inc. at 1050 Oakleigh Drive.
There were no injuries reported and fire officials were able to contain the blaze by Wednesday afternoon.
Fire officials remained on the scene Wednesday night putting out hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire started in a trash pile behind the building early Wednesday afternoon, according to East Point Fire Chief Rosemary Roberts Cloud. Three fire stations responded. The fire quickly spread to several trailers and the warehouse.
“Mattresses burn very fast and very hot,” Cloud said.
Shawn Heath, a customer service manager at the factory, said he heard commotion outside his office and, fighting through the smoke, managed to evacuate everyone from the building.
“Thank God,” he said to a group of reporters after escaping the fire. “Material things we can get back, but it’s hard to get a life back.”
The company is 15 years old and has been at the location for four years, Heath said.
