With early voting nearing an end, turnout has been healthy in Cherokee County.

Board of Elections and Voter Registration Interim Director Kim Stancil says through late Monday, 10, 463 residents had voted, with a smaller percentage of residents voting by mail this go-round.

“The first two weeks we were stronger than normal” on turnout, says Stancil. “Normally we start out slow and it picks up the final week, but we have been pretty busy all the way through.”

She says 19, 796 residents voted early in the 2010 off-year balloting, and says turnout may equal or surpass that by the end of the 2014 voting period on Friday. She notes that, not only are the gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races drawing considerable interest, the race for chairman of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has drawn attention as well.
