Storms moved through metro Atlanta early Tuesday evening carrying heavy rains, thunder and lightning.
Severe thunderstorm warnings came and went in Fulton, Forsyth and Gwinnett counties, and a flash flood warning remained in effect for Morgan and Oconee counties.
But the heavy weather was expected to lighten up considerably after 8 p.m. as it moved off to the east, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said, even though intermittent showers could still be in the area afterwards.
The late summer pattern of scattered, sometimes severe storms developing in the late afternoon and early evening hours is expected to recur Wednesday as well. Temperatures are expected to drop to the low 70s Tuesday night then bounce back to the mid-80s Wednesday.
