The Mt. Vernon Road/ Nandina Lane intersection will undergo construction this week to create a new configuration. Once completed, drivers will be unable to make left turns off Mt. Vernon onto Nandina.

The city’s public works department decided this modification based on a recent traffic study, determining that left turns in and out of roads, businesses or developments are often problematic movements for drivers. Increased traffic volume over the past five years, coupled with a condensed left turn lane distance approaching the intersection of Mt. Vernon and Chamblee Dunwoody, have raised safety issues for drivers along Mt. Vernon Road.

The city believes this improvement will also help address safer pedestrian crossings by offering a refuge island at Nandina Lane and reduce points of conflict for crossing pedestrians through the elimination of left turns. The construction should be completed by Friday, weather permitting.
