The Southeastern Festivals and Events Association recently recognized Duluth as one of the best in the region for its event and creative efforts over the last year. During the SFEA Kaleidoscope Award dinner in Lexington, Kentucky, Duluth received the ‘Best Event within and Event Gold Award’ for STEAM, and the ‘Best Sponsor Bronze Award’ for Kicks 101.5 Cumulus Media.

The SFEA Kaleidoscope Awards, recognizes the marketing, programming and overall event achievement in the festival and event industry. Their mission is to strengthen, educate and unify the festivals and events industry throughout the Southeast.

Duluth’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) event was a part of the city’s Food Truck Friday event. Coleman and Duluth Middle Schools joined the event to showcase their Project-Based Learning projects. The projects are driven by science and mathematics with humanities and arts woven into each unit. Some of the projects included tiny home models using renewable and non-renewable resources to conserve energy, investigation evidence of a mock crime scene using laboratory skills in science and analysis in math, soft drink innovations, sound wave analysis and the “Booty” boat challenge.
