The Duluth City Council recently agreed to amend the city’s code of ordinances pertaining to pawn shops. The amendment requires pawn shops to report transactions through an electronic automated reporting system. This system will transmit all transactions to the police department and will eliminate manual transaction entry into the tracking system.

Current pawn shop owners have until Sept. 30 to comply.

In a separate amendment, the council will add guidelines for “Precious Metals Dealers.” Previously, these businesses have been operating under the pawn shop ordinance. The new amendment will require the same reporting requirements as pawn shops.
