Duluth officials are still deciding where to set the city’s 2017 millage rate. Georgia Law requires a rollback millage rate must be calculated that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s new digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.

However, the Fiscal Year 2018 budget adopted by the Duluth City Council on June 12 requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate. The council may set a millage rate to support the budget. The current millage rate is 6.551 mills and the currently proposed millage rate is 6.551 mills.

The city will hold three public hearings to express their opinions on this tax increase at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 3167 Main St. and 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28. At City Hall in the Community Room during a special called meeting of the mayor and council.
