The Duluth City Council heard a recommendation recently from the city’s Community Development Director Nick Colonna to consider installation of skate stops on the new low wall along West Lawrenceville St.

City staff has become concerned about the potential hazard from skateboarders using the wall for skating purposes. To be effective, skate stops would need to be placed along the top of the wall about every two feet, requiring roughly 45 in total.

Before making any final decision, Duluth councilmembers asked city staff to evaluate the need for skate stops in other parts of the town green, and to consider more “thematic” options for the plaza area, in keeping with the restaurant district.
