The Duluth City Council approved a $3.5 million contract Dec. 22 with Ohmshiv Construction for the State Route 120/Main Street Phase 1 and 2 improvements. The bid, not to exceed $3,538, 471, was the lowest of three evaluated.

Along with a base bid, two added alternate options were included. Council approved the first for decorative mast arm signals for the Buford Highway and SR 120 intersection. The city council asked staff to investigate the cost of relocating the second option for a rapid flashing pedestrian beacon on SR 120 across from the Monarch School.

The mayor and council also encouraged city staff to work with the engineer and contractor to identify other engineering opportunities to reduce costs of the project.
