The Duluth City Council voted Monday to authorize agreements with GDOT for the GATEway Grant allowing for installation of landscaping at the intersection of Buford Highway and Sugarloaf Parkway. The $50,000 grant will pay for all landscaping with Duluth covering costs for design, permitting and maintenance.

Design and permitting costs totaling $8,492 and are being paid out of Duluth’s Planning Department Professional Services Budget. The bidding process will require the contractor provide a one-year warranty to cover the landscaping. Staff previously reported ongoing maintenance for the landscaping would be $5,000 per year. Recent quotes confirmed initial maintenance would be minimal in the first year with ongoing maintenance running between $1,100 and $2,800 per year.
