Duluth chooses Comcast as internet provided for city business
The Duluth City Council voted recently to contract with Comcast for the city’s internet services. Currently, the city’s administration buildings use a combination of Charter Cable and Birch Communications, formerly CBeyond, for internet connections.
City employees access the internet for work as well as to move data between buildings. Backup for all data is stored at an offsite location. The city has experienced ongoing connection issues due in large part to a lack of bandwidth needed for the growing amount of data transferred between buildings.
After receiving quotes from Granite Telecommunications, Cogent Communications and Comcast, and based on best fiber connections, ability to increase upload speeds and price, the city has chosen to contract with Comcast beginning early next year.
