Duluth approves updates to unified development code

As Duluth’s downtown development has become a reality, the city has found the need to tweak some city codes and ordinances to better serve the health, welfare, and safety of their citizens. Once such change followed a recent public hearing by the City Council to considered amendments to the city’s Unified Development Code.
The council approved three text amendments. The first will incorporate the use of “Yoga, Pilates and similar Studios” in the Central Business District as a special use and allowed in other commercial districts. The second is to allow “Restaurants, Full service (excluding Brewpubs)” excluding “lounges” in the same districts. Additionally, this would allow restaurants over 3,500 feet as an inherent use. The third is to allow “Brewpubs” with the same stipulations as restaurants in the CBD.
