Forsyth County sheriff’s officials said a continuing crackdown on driving under the influence has borne fruit.
The campaign which began in November resulted in 63 arrests for driving under the influence in December, said sheriff’s spokesman Doug Rainwater. He said that in an average month, arrests average about 30. He said that over the New Year’s weekend, from Friday night through Monday, 22 DUI arrests were made.
Forsyth County officials initiated the joint crackdown with Alpharetta police after two DUI-related rashes the same night. In one, a Forsyth County deputy was injured when hit by a suspected intoxicated driver on Ga. 400. In the other, an Alpharetta officer driving home through Forsyth was rear-ended-again by a suspect ted impaired driver.
Rainwater said the crackdown will continue through the Super Bowl weekend.
